Q2: How much loft insulation do I need?
A2: To meet current Building Regulations you need 270mm of mineral wool insulation. 100mm between the ceiling joists and 170mm laid over the joists. However, the greater the thickness of insulation, the greater the energy and cost savings.

Q4: I want to use my loft for storage, How can I do that if it is insulated to the depth recommended?
A4: 270mm is the required thickness of mineral wool. If you are use mineral wool between the joists, and Space Board above the joists, the overall thickness can be reduced while maintaining the thermal performance. Also, Space Board is a very strong, high-performance insulation, designed to work above, below or between chipboard decking - which means you can properly insulate your loft while maintaining a storage area.

Q5: How long would it take me to insulate my loft?
A5: Allow about half a day once you have bought the insulation and cleared the loft of its contents. Remember - you will need one layer of 100mm between your roof joists, then a second layer of 170mm on top (cross layered) to comply with current Building Regulations. Measure the area of your loft and look for the packaging label for the area contained in a roll.

Q6: What sort of clothing should I wear when installing loft insulation?
A6: We recommend wearing comfortable, loose fitting clothing and gloves. Many lofts are dusty, dirty places, so we would also suggest wearing a basic dust mask and plastic googles which are available very cheaply from all good DIY shops
